B.Tech Diaries: Dark Rooms, Newton’s Rings, and the Season of Fests

Hello everyone! In my last post, I introduced the start of the second semester and the arrival of some new faces. As promised, today I’m going to tell you the story of how Hari, Mohan, and Kamalakar officially joined our inner circle. The Logic of the Lab In our second semester, we had five subjects and three main labs: Physics, MSE (Material Science), and Workshop. With 62 students in our class, we were divided into two batches of 31. While one half was sweating it out in the Workshop or MSE lab, the other half was in the Physics lab. Every week, we would rotate. But the real magic happened within the subgroups . The "Dark Room" Connection Physics experiments often require precision—and sometimes, total darkness. One of the major experiments was Newton’s Rings . To see those concentric circles of light, you have to be in a dark room. In that same dark room, another group was working on the Laser Intensity experiment. Akhil and his group were inside, and that’s where they...

B.Tech Diaries: New Semester, New Faces, and the Return of the CR

Hello everyone...!!! It has been a long time, hasn't it? I am finally back to tell you all about the start of my B.Tech Second Semester . We finished the first semester before we even realized it—those days really did fly by. If you haven't read the previous parts of this story yet, make sure to catch up so you can keep up with the journey. Let’s dive into the start of a brand-new chapter! The Missing CR As I mentioned in my last post, I missed the first few days of the new semester because I was in Bangalore for my mother’s medical check-up. While I was away, my classmates told me the new Class Teacher kept asking, "Where is the CR?" "He hasn't come today, Mam," they would reply. Apparently, she was quite surprised: "What? The CR isn't here on the first day?" She left a message with the class that I needed to meet her the moment I returned. The Return Two days later, I finally walked back into the classroom. The moment I stepped through ...

B.Tech Diaries: The Code, the Crisis, and the 30-Page Chemistry Saga

Hello readers! Welcome back. In Part 4 , I talked about the end of the semester and the chaotic events surrounding Manoj’s birthday. Today, we dive into the "boss level" of the first semester: Lab Externals and the Final Exams. The pressure was on, the internal marks were in, and we were about to face the real test. Let’s get into the page! The CP Lab: Code & Confusion The first external was the Computer Programming (CP) Lab . Now, unlike Intermediate practicals where things are often predictable, here we had to execute the code perfectly. Before entering the lab, I met Neeraj . If there’s one person who can "mug up" code better than anyone, it’s him. "Ganesh, do you know how to do Matrix Multiplication?" he asked. "Yeah, I’ve got it," I replied. Then, he started explaining his own version of the logic, and honestly? He totally confused me! When I got inside and saw the Matrix Multiplication program on my paper, I should have been happy. But...

B.Tech Diaries: The "White Shirt" CR, Lab Sneaks, and a Close Call

Hello readers! Welcome back. After the emotional farewell to Rupa Mam, the college atmosphere shifted. We were all looking forward to Fresher’s Day, but as often happens in college, things didn't go exactly as planned. The Fresher’s Day Postponement We were all pumped and ready to perform, but then came the announcement: Fresher’s Day was postponed due to rain. The funny thing? On the actual day, there wasn't a single drop of rainfall! While most of us were disappointed, there was a silver lining. Our friend Revanth had been down with a high fever. We hoped the delay would give him enough time to recover so he could dance on stage with us. Unfortunately, even with the extra time, he wasn't able to participate. It was a bit sad, but the show had to go on. The Man in White Finally, the big day arrived. The plan among the Mechanical boys was simple: everyone wears a black shirt . When I showed up, I was the only one in a white shirt . "Ganesh! You’re the CR! Why aren...

B.Tech Diaries: A Heartbreaking Farewell and a Cold Welcome

Hello readers! Welcome back. In my last post, I shared the highlights of Teacher’s Day and Engineer’s Day—some of the proudest moments of my early college life. But today, I have to tell you about the first real "sad" moment of my first year. I know I promised to keep things brief, but this story is close to my heart. Let’s get into it. The News No One Wanted to Hear About a month after college started, we were all buzzing with excitement for Fresher’s Day. But then, a "fine day" turned into a gloomy one: Rupa Mam announced her resignation. We didn't know how to react. In those short weeks, she had become more than just a teacher; she was someone we could talk to about anything. My friends and I would often visit her cabin during free hours just to catch up and gossip. She always made time for us. October 14, 2017: The Last Day Wednesday, October 14, 2017, was her final day at the college. We weren’t going to let her leave without a proper goodbye. We planned a ...

B.Tech Diaries: Lessons, Leadership, and Lucky Charms

Hello everyone! Welcome back. In my previous post, I talked about how I found my feet at SVCE and unexpectedly became the Class Representative (CR). Today, I want to share how life started moving at the speed of a bullet train. Between organizing events and surviving lab sessions, things were getting very interesting! The Apron Crisis One afternoon, I realized I had left my lab apron at home—and I had a Chemistry lab session coming up! For those who don't know, you can't enter the lab without one. Rupa Mam was the main person in charge, and she was strict about the rules. I asked for permission to attend without it, but she (rightfully) said no. In a bit of a panic, I called my dad. Without a second thought, he drove all the way to the college and handed my apron to the watchman at the gate. When that apron finally reached my classroom, I felt such a wave of relief. I’ll never forget how my dad showed up for me that day. A Rose for Teacher's Day As September 5th approached...

B.Tech Diaries: From the Back Bench to the CR Seat

Hello everyone! In my last post, I shared the fine details of my very first day at SVCE. As promised, I’m going to keep things a bit more brief from here on out—but that doesn't mean the story is any less exciting! Let’s dive back into the journey... The Front-Row Shift On the first day, I ended up on the last bench, but deep down, I’ve always been a "first-bench student." By the second day, I knew I had to make a move. I walked up to a guy in the front row and asked, "Mind if I sit here?" He smiled and said, "Yeah, no problem!" That was Akhil —a guy who, coincidentally, shares a birthday with the superstar Prabhas. From that moment on, the front row became my home. Meeting the Legends: Drawing and Humor As the week progressed, I met more of the faculty: A. Venugopal Sir (Drawing/Year In-Charge): A legend at SVCE with nearly 40 years of teaching experience. As the first-year Mechanical In-Charge, he came in to check on the second-counseling students. ...
